ANDY ALTMANN
The Design Council have been running a series of talks by the biggest and best under the banner ‘Take 5’. The second of 5 featured Andy Altmann of design royalty Why Not Associates. The place was inevitably rammed. The newish Design Council HQ at the Angel Building EC1 was a cracking venue and Andrew, raconteur, bon viveur, ManU fan, brilliantly entertained the sizeable audience to nearly an hours worth of top quality anecdotes. All wrapped in the ‘5’ motif Andy chose 5 Erics to ground his snapshots from the Why Not archive – Eric Gill, Eric Cantona, Eric Morecambe, Wreckless Eric and Eric Morley. Sadly we were old enough to know of all of them and guessed the Gill, Cantona and Morecambe ones. Our big favourites from the brilliantly warm, funny and inspired night was the Blackpool Comedy Carpet stories which were quite tremendous. We rushed out and immediately bought the book.
