JOHNSONS OF CHELSEA

Chelsea Space have put on a great retrospective of the work of Lloyd Johnson, the fella behind Johnsons seminal clothes store at 406, Kings Road. The shop now long gone fitted out the likes of Joe Strummer and Mick Jones of the Clash, Jerry Dammers, Brian Setzer, Bob Dylan, Jerry Lee Lewis, Kid Creole, sundry Sex Pistols, Lux Interior of the Cramps, and anyone who generally liked to stir it up a bit. Johnsons – The Modern Outfitters, a collection of clothing, shoes, graphics and instruments has been put together by Paul Gorham and Chelsea Space and is a great document to that period just before the digital wave cleaned up all the rough edges.
